Jane's Addiction adds more dates, readies for kick-off
Jane’s Addiction, which kicks off its reunion tour on Tuesday night (10/2), has added another round of dates to the run. The group has also shuffled some of its previously scheduled California stops, and has made some changes to the outing’s support roster.
Dubbed the Jubilee tour, the group’s jaunt now extends into mid-November, and wraps up with a two-night stand at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel.
All three of the group’s previously scheduled California stops have been moved from indoor venues to outdoor venues, and several dates have been shuffled accordingly. A planned Oct. 26 performance at the San Diego Sports Arena is now set for Oct. 28 at Chula Vista’s Coors Amphitheatre, a planned Oct. 29 performance at the Oakland Coliseum will now take place on Oct. 26 at Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheatre, and the group’s L.A.-area performance is still set for Oct. 27, but has been moved from the Great Western Forum to the Hollywood Bowl.
Added to the outing’s rotating list of support acts is Courtney Love, who has signed on to perform a solo set at the Oct. 27 Hollywood Bowl stop. Love is the latest addition to a roster of opening acts that also includes alt-rockers Live (Oct. 2-8 and 15-23), Afrobeat artist Femi Kuti (Oct. 2, 3 and 6-16) and electronica act Stereo MCs (Oct. 19-Nov. 11).
British techno act the Prodigy, meanwhile, has dropped off of the bill. The group was scheduled to perform at the Los Angeles-, Oakland- and San Diego-area stops, but backed out following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, citing “too unstable a climate for the band to travel,” according to a statement from the group’s management.
Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell offered his thoughts on the attacks in a recent press release.
“If people want to follow the prescribed response to this tragedy,” Farrell said, “then they should look to help. Redeem people. If someone is poor, cover them. If someone is shaky, hold them up. If someone is lost, give them direction. Put your spirit to the rescue. Keep a cool head and bring liberty back to our day.”
In keeping with that sentiment, Farrell has arranged for $1 from the price of every Jubilee Tour ticket to be donated to the Jubilee Foundation, a non-profit organization he founded that works with various charities and causes, according to his publicist.
The Jubilee tour marks Jane's Addiction 's second reunion outing since the band split up in 1991. The first took place in 1997, and coincided with the release of "Kettle Whistle" (Warner Bros.), an album that features both live and previously unreleased Jane's Addiction material.
The band also reunited for a one-off performance at the Coachella festival in April of this year.
Jane's Addiction's lineup on the upcoming reunion tour will feature founding members Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar) and Stephen Perkins (drums), as well as Martyn LeNoble (bass), who was a member of Farrell's side-project, Porno for Pyros. Original Jane's bassist Eric Avery reportedly chose to not participate in either of the group's reunion outings, and was replaced by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea during the 1997 jaunt.
