Weiland, ODB Free As Cross-Continent Court Proceedings Continue

Rapper ODB was released from a Brooklyn jail on Friday (1/22) after spending a week behind bars following an alleged shootout with police officers after being pulled over for a traffic stop the previous weekend. On the same day, a judge in Manhattan Criminal Court issued a continuance in court proceedings against Scott Weiland , frontman for the Stone Temple Pilots, to allow attorneys on both sides to discuss plea arrangements.

Weiland also spent part of the week behind bars in Los Angeles after failing to meet probationary requirements of drug testing at Impact House, the court-ordered California rehab center he had been visiting as part of a 1998 sentence for heroin possession. After appearing before a judge in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, Weiland was placed back on probation and issued a stern warning that his next violation would result in a jail sentence.

ODB posted $150,000 bail on Friday, gaining himself freedom while a New York grand jury weighs the possibility of pursuing attempted murder charges against the rapper. The charges stem from an incident on January 15th, during which police officers claim that two shots were fired from ODB's vehicle after being pulled over by plain-clothes officers after the rapper's vehicle was seen driving erratically.

ODB is due back in New York court on February 5th. Following that, he is scheduled to return to California and appear in a Santa Monica court on February 8th for a pre-trial hearing on felony terrorist charges that he threatened to kill two security guards who kicked him out of the House of Blues in West Hollywood. On October 9th, he'll do the same thing in a Compton court where he is charged with threatening to kill a former girlfriend who is the mother of one of his children. The pre-trial hearings will allow his lawyers to work with prosecutors on possible plea arrangements to lessen the charges or avoid a jury trial altogether.

Weiland in due back in New York court on February 16th on heroin possession charges, at which point his lawyer may make a plea bargain with prosecutors there or make preparations for a jury trial.
