De La Soul, Biz Markie lead latest Spitkicker tour

Dates have begun to emerge for De La Soul's Spitkicker tour, which will feature Biz Markie. The jaunt kicks off on Oct. 19 at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., and will visit more than 20 cities.

De La Soul's forthcoming album features collaborations with Slick Rick, B-Real (Cypress Hill), Cee-Lo (Goodie Mob) and Cuban balladeer Periquo Fernandez. The first single is "Baby Phat" featuring Devin the Dude.

Due on Dec. 4, De La Soul's album "Art Official Intelligence: Bionix" (Tommy Boy) is the second of a three-CD series called "Art Official Intelligence," according to their spokeswoman. The first CD was 2000's Grammy-nominated "Mosaic Thump." The trilogy was originally conceived as a triple-CD, but the group decided to issue three CDs individually over two years.

"The themes and ideas are similar to ‘Mosaic Thump,’ but we are much more aggressive with lyrics on 'Bionix,'" De La Soul's Dave Jolicoeur said about "Bionix." (Jolicouer used to go by the name Trugoy the Dove.)

The Spitkicker tour was originally scheduled for the summer. It subsequently paired up with the electronica tour Mekka, which was canceled prior to its launch.
