Usher announces cities for upcoming tour
R&B singer Usher has announced plans for his first tour in four years. The jaunt, in support of his latest record, "8701" (Arista), will kick off late next month.
According to his spokeswoman, the first leg of the singer's tour will hit theater-sized venues and the second leg will visit arenas. Cities and dates for the first leg have been nailed down, and opening acts and venues are expected to be announced soon.
Usher is allowing fans to choose the name of the tour from a list of possible names on his official website. The winner will receive tickets and backstage passes.
"8701," which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart, was released Aug. 7, and includes the singles "U Remind Me" and "U Got It Bad." The Grammy-nominated singer’s 1997 debut, "My Way," spawned the hits "You Make Me Wanna ..." and "Nice and Slow."
Usher can be seen in the upcoming film "Texas Rangers," in which he co-stars opposite Dylan McDermott ("The Practice") and James Van Der Beek ("Dawson's Creek"). The film is due out on Nov. 30, one day after the kick-off of the upcoming U.S. tour.
The singer plans to mount a European tour in February.
