Charts: Ja Rule keeps No. 1 from Enya, Bubba Sparxxx
Ja Rule's "Pain Is Love," which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart last week, will remain there for a second week, despite mounting pressure from Enya's "A Day Without Rain" and the No. 3 debut of rap newcomer Bubba Sparxx's "Dark Days, Bright Nights."
"Pain Is Love"'s second week at No. 1 comes despite a sales decline of about 40 percent, from about 360,000 copies to about 220,000 copies, according to industry sources. The album features the rapper's hit single, "Livin' It Up," which moved from No. 4 to No. 6 on trade publication Radio & Records' latest urban chart.
Continuing its slow and steady climb up the chart, new-age artist Enya's "A Day Without Rain" (Reprise) moves from No. 3 to No. 2. The album, which has spawned the hit "Only Time" in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, has now sold over 3 million copies, according to industry sources.
Bubba Sparxxx's debut album, "Dark Days, Bright Nights" (Beat Club/Interscope), enters the chart at No. 3 this week, thanks to the success of the album's first single, "Ugly." The song has been a radio favorite, and the music video has climbed to No. 7 on MTV's most recent Top 20 weekly video chart.
Jay-Z's "The Blueprint" (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam), which spent its first three weeks at No. 1, dips from No. 2 to No. 4. It is followed by Nickelback's "Silver Side Up" (Roadrunner) and the "Totally Hits 2001" (Arista) compilation, both of which stay put at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Dropping from No. 4 to No. 7 is Alicia Keys' "Songs in A Minor" (J Records), which has spent all 16 weeks since its release in the Top 10, due largely in part to the success of her No. 1 hit, "Falling." The album has sold about 2.8 million copies, according to industry sources.
All falling one spot this week are Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" (Warner Bros.) to No. 8, Usher's "8701" (Arista) to No. 9 and P.O.D.'s "Satellite" (Atlantic) to No. 10.
The second highest debut this week is Charlotte Church's "Enchantment" (Columbia), which enters the chart at No. 15.
Further down, the "Bones" soundtrack (Priority)--featuring Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, D12 and others--clocks in at No. 39, the tragedy-inspired "Proud to Be American" compilation at No. 50, the O'Jays' "For the Love … " (MCA) at No. 53, and Trace Adkins' "Chrome" at No. 59.
