Cake takes its tour west of the Mississippi
Alt-rock band Cake , which opened a West Coast tour behind its new album, "Comfort Eagle," in late August, will focus on Eastern cities in the coming weeks.
The Sacramento, Calif.-based group is scheduled to play an Oct. 21 concert in Los Angeles--a make-up date for a postponed Sept. 12 show--before heading to Nashville to open the tour's Eastern leg.
"Short Skirt/Long Jacket," the first single from "Comfort Eagle," (Columbia) continues to receive heavy airplay at many alternative rock radio stations. Cake has filmed two videos for the song, both of which have cracked MTV's rotation. The album's second single will be "Love Her Madly," according to the band's official website.
"Comfort Eagle" sits at No. 148 on the Billboard 200 album chart. More than 300,000 copies of the album have sold since it reached stores 13 weeks ago, according to industry sources. The band's two prior albums sold more than 1 million copies apiece, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
Cake's lineup for recording "Comfort Eagle" included original members John McCrea (vocals, acoustic guitar), Vince DiFiore (trumpet, keyboards) and Todd Roper (percussion), as well as Xan McCurdy (guitar) and Gabriel Nelson (bass), both of whom played on Cake's previous release, 1998's "Prolonging the Magic" (Capricorn). Roper left the group after the "Comfort Eagle" sessions, and has been replaced by Pete McNeal.
