Mannheim Steamroller maps holiday tour
Composer-musician Chip Davis and his New Age orchestra Mannheim Steamroller have mapped out the 2001 edition of their annual Christmas tour of arenas and pavilions.
The jaunt kicks off on Nov. 16 in Billings, Mont., and wraps up with a three-night stand on Dec. 26-28 in Davis' hometown of Omaha, Neb. The orchestra's itinerary also shows multiple nights in Salt Lake City. The details are listed below.
As is the norm for the annual tour--which first took to the road in 1984--each venue is outfitted as a "Christmas village." Large screens project the orchestra's performance, as a cast of Christmas characters interact with the crowd and families.
Earlier this month, Mannheim Steamroller released its fifth Christmas CD, "Christmas Extraordinaire," on Davis' label, American Gramaphone. Davis allowed fans to vote to the Christmas carols included on the CD, and to show his appreciation, he gave each voter a free advance copy of "Christmas Extraordinaire."
Mannheim Steamroller and Grammy Award-winner Davis have sold more than 20 million albums. In 1998, Mannheim Steamroller released an album titled "The Christmas Angel" in conjunction with a television special on NBC that starred ice skaters Dorothy Hamill, Rudy Galindo and Elvis Stojko.
