U2 adds eight new cities to itinerary
U2 , which kicked off the final leg of its Elevation 2001 Tour last month, has added eight more dates to its itinerary that extend the run into early December. Tickets for all of the new dates will go on sale over the next two weekends.
Previously set to wrap up its tour in Los Angeles on Nov. 19, U2 will now continue on to Sacramento, Calif.; Phoenix; Dallas; Kansas City, Mo.; St. Louis; Atlanta; Tampa and Miami. Tickets for the six new November dates will hit the box office on Saturday (11/10), while tickets for the Florida dates are set for release on Nov. 17, according to tour promoter Clear Channel Entertainment. Details appear below.
As has been the case for all of the group's previous sold-out U.S. dates, ticket prices will be set at $45, $85 and $130, according to Clear Channel.
Opening acts for the new dates weren’t announced.
U2 has posted quick sell-outs for every date thus far on its highly successful 2001 tour. The outing--which has made more than 90 stops in North America and Europe--as of last month had grossed about $105 million to date, according to Amusement Business' early October statistics. With the addition of the new dates, U2 is a lock for the top-grossing act in the world this year.
The veteran Irish rockers are touring in support of last year's "All That You Can't Leave Behind" (Interscope), which last month was certified triple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The group's tour, which currently features No Doubt in the opening slot, continues on Wednesday night (11/7) in Denver.
