Stone Temple Pilots set plans for headlining dates, singles and surgery
Stone Temple Pilots ' run atop the Family Values 2001 tour roster wraps up on Saturday night (11/17), but the group won't be heading directly home when the show ends. Instead, the band will take only one day off before playing a pair of headlining shows in Las Vegas.
In addition to shows on Monday and Tuesday night (11/19-20) at Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel, the group's post-Family Values plans also include a New Year's Eve performance at Orlando's Hard Rock Live.
Tickets for the Las Vegas dates are on sale now. Those for the Orlando date, meanwhile, hit the box office on Saturday (11/17) and will cost $100 each, according to the venue's official website.
No additional dates have yet been revealed, and the band will likely be sidelined for a short while following the Las Vegas dates, as singer Scott Weiland plans to undergo knee surgery to repair torn cartilage, according to the group's official website.
On Nov. 27, the group will release its rendition of the Beatles' song "Revolution." Proceeds from the enhanced CD single--which includes video footage of the recording session--will go to the Twin Towers Fund, a charity that provides assistance to or on behalf of the victims and families of victims of the World Trade Center disaster, according to a press release.
The band performed "Revolution" at the Oct. 3 TNT special "Come Together: A Night for John Lennon's Words and Music, Dedicated to New York City and Its People."
Weiland will also turn up on the "Not Another Teen Movie" soundtrack (Warner Bros.), due out Dec. 4. The singer contributed his version of Depeche Mode's "But Not Tonight" to the collection, which also features songs from Marilyn Manson, Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down and others.
"Shangri La Dee Da" (Atlantic), STP's fifth album, hit stores in June and debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album chart, but dropped off the chart in mid-September. At that time, the album had sold about 270,000 copies, according to industry sources.
STP has been on the road since Oct. 11, co-headlining with Staind on the third incarnation of the Family Values tour. The outing, which also features Linkin Park, Static-X, Deadsy and Spike 1000, continues with Tuesday night's (11/13) show in San Jose, Calif., the first of four remaining dates on the run.
