Albert Mangelsdorff Featured On "Live At Montreux Jazz Festival"

A live performance of German jazz trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff and the Reto Weber Percussion Orchestra has been captured on "Live at Montreux Jazz Festival" on the Double Moon/Challenge label.

Mangelsdorff--vastly influential for his extended techniques, experimental sensibility and multiphonics-meets-gutbucket sound--is joined by percussionist Reto Weber, the late African percussionist Nana Twum Nketia and Iranian zarb player Keyvan Chemirani. (The zarb is a Persian hand drum similar to the Indian tabla).

The 1994 performance, which combines world traditions with collective and individual free improvisation, will be released on Feb. 15.
