Coldplay plays festivals, make-up dates

update: British pop band Coldplay is rounding out 2001 with a handful of U.S. dates, some of which were postponed following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The tour kicks off on Wednesday (11/28) in Providence, R.I., where the band will perform as part of WBRU-FM’s 32nd Birthday Bash with Remy Zero and Delta Clutch.

On Saturday (12/1) in Fairfax, Va., Coldplay joins Blink-182, the Crystal Method, System of a Down, Pete Yorn, Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd for WHFS-FM's HFSmas Holiday Nutcracker concert. Two days later, it heads to Boston for the Mix 98.5 Holiday Hoedown with Alanis Morissette, Barenaked Ladies and the Cranberries.

On Dec. 7, Coldplay, Staind and Travis come together for the Deck the Hall Ball in Seattle.

Shows in New York and Chicago are make-up performances for shows postponed in September.

Coldplay is touring in support of its U.S. debut "Parachutes" (Nettwerk/Capitol), which was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000.

Coldplay has been recording new material, some of which has been reported to be heavier and more aggressive. Streaming video of the recording sessions is available on its official website.
