Billy Joel Winter-Spring Tour Takes Shape

Billy Joel 's sprawling US tour received a new round of dates this week with March and April activity scheduled to bring the New York singer-songwriter into the western regions of the country after playing primarily eastern bookings for the better part of the past year.

The new dates include a new date for Joel's twice-postponed Pittsburgh stop, originally intended for September 16th and bumped to November 16th before finally landing at its new home, March 4th. Both postponements were caused by throat problems that kept Joel off the road through the summer and fall of 1998.

Joel's western US run doesn't initially appear to be routed with much room for added dates -- a contrast to the clusters of dates Joel has played in New York, Boston and other northeast tour stops. The itinerary does, however leave room for Joel to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in New York on March 15th. Joel will join Bruce Springsteen, George Martin, Charles Brown and Paul McCartney as 1999 inductees.

Most of the western dates will go on sale this weekend, with details in Live Daily's Weekend Report.
