The nominees in music categories for the People's Choice Awards, which will be presented on Jan. 13 during a live CBS telecast, are:
- Male musical performer: Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, George Strait
Female musical performer: Faith Hill, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears
Musical group: 'NSync, Backstreet Boys, Dixie Chicks
Alanis Morissette 's new studio album, "Under Rug Swept," will hit stores on Feb. 26.
Foo Fighter Dave Grohl plays drums on the majority of the tracks on the forthcoming Queens of the Stone Age album, "Songs for the Deaf" (Interscope). A spring 2002 release is expected.
In connection with a July drunken driving arrest in Tennessee, country singer Trace Adkins was sentenced to serve two days in jail and his driver's license was suspended for a year, the Associated Press reported. Adkins pleaded guilty to the charges on Monday (11/26).
A Tallahassee, Fla., jury returned a verdict of not guilty on Tuesday (11/27) in a high-profile case concerning two club promoters, the Electronic Music Defense and Education Fund announced. Prosecutors had attempted to use a 1986 crack-house law to convict the promoters.
Residents and city council members of Highland Park, Mich., are voicing opposition to a plan to burn down an abandoned house for a scene in a movie starring rapper Eminem, the Detroit News reported. The opposition comes despite producers' promises to demolish three vacant homes, donate $2,000 to a local charity and give a lecture about the movie business at a local high school.
Tonight's episode (11/28) of the TV show "Law & Order," whose stories are often "ripped from the headlines," concerns a shooting at an uptown Manhattan night club. The prime suspect is a popular rapper.
