George Harrison remembered
The music world remembers the Beatles guitarist, who died on Thursday (11/29) at the age of 58.
"We are all devastated by this news, it's deeply sad to lose such a beautiful guy. Luckily Heather and I saw George a couple of weeks ago and true to form he was laughing and joking. George was a very brave man with a heart of gold but also someone who didn't suffer fools gladly. I'll always remember that without George, it all wouldn't have been possible. I'll miss him dearly and I'll always love him--he's my baby brother." --Paul McCartney
"George was a best friend of mine. We will miss George for his sense of love, his sense of music and his sense of laughter." --Ringo Starr
"George has given so much to us in his lifetime and continues to do so even after his passing, with his music, his wit and his wisdom. His life was magical and we all felt we had shared a little bit of it by knowing him. Thank you, George--it was grand knowing you." --Yoko Ono
"I am horribly saddened by the death of George Harrison . While we were not personal friends, I think that just like everybody in the world, I have always considered all the Beatles to be my friends. Their arrival in America in 1964 was electrifying, one of the most exciting things that ever happened in my life, and their music has always and will aways mean so much to me. The world is terribly diminished by the loss of George, and today, I say a prayer for George and wish him and his family Love and Mercy." --Brian Wilson
"I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but his influence and impact reached across generations into my life. He will be missed and always remembered. Love and light to his family and fans." --Brandon Boyd, Incubus
"It's very, very sad. I hope he's found what he spent his life searching for." --Noel Gallagher, Oasis
"It’s very sad but not a total surprise since he's been sick. I always picked his songs out as favorites of mine. It took me a long time to understand he was not part of the Lennon/McCartney songwriting thing. I also feel that he fueled the band in ways. [Harrison] picking up the sitar--I think that had to be an important part of broadening the band. He was a great singer and he seemed like a lovely bloke for sure--not to mention a pretty killer guitarist." --Dave Pirner, Soul Asylum
"There’s no way for any band today to say they weren’t inspired by the Beatles or that they didn't have some kind of influence. When George Harrison died it was a big shock to all of us. It was a big loss for rock and roll." --Creed guitarist Mark Tremonti
"'Taxman’ was the first lick I learned on guitar. Knowing George was ill for a long time helped soften the blow of hearing the news, but it didn’t really make it any easier to take." --Tim Easton
