"America: A Tribute to Heroes" (Interscope)
On Sept. 21, practically every television channel on the dial aired the two-hour telethon event "America: A Tribute to Heroes." This two-disc set captures all of the event's musical performances.
The five major music labels--BMG, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group--agreed to suspend label exclusivity clauses for their artists, and waived all publishing fees under their control in connection with the sale of both the CD and companion DVD/VHS video that is also set for release on Tuesday (12/4). All of the performers have also waived all of their rights and fees, according to an Interscope press release.
Net proceeds from the release will be donated to the September 11 Telethon Fund, which is being administered, at no cost to the Telethon Fund, by the United Way.

"New Old Songs" (Interscope)
The rap-metal band releases the inevitable remix record, which had been tentatively titled "Limp Remizkit."
The remixers include such A-list notables as the Neptunes, Timbaland, DJ Premiere, Butch Vig, William Orbit, P Diddy and the band's own DJ Lethal, previously of House of Pain. Guest vocalists include Bubba Sparxxx and Xzibit.
Recently departed Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland--who exited the group in October--created a remix of the group's 1999 hit, "Break Stuff" for the album, but the track was dropped after Borland left.
Limp Bizkit is currently looking for a replacement for guitarist Borland.
OutKast
"Big Boi & Dre Present OutKast" (Arista/La Face)
The latest release from Atlanta rap duo OutKast--featuring Big Boi and Dre--is a greatest hits album.
"Big Boi & Dre Present OutKast" compiles songs from OutKast's four albums on the La Face label: "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" (1994), "ATLiens" (1996), "Aquemini" (1998) and "Stankonia" (2000).
The album also includes three new songs, according to OutKast's official website.
On Monday (12/3), the website will feature a "prerelease online listening party," for which listeners must register with the site.
Big Boi and Dre are also members of the Dungeon Family, a hip-hop collective with Goodie Mob, Witchdoctor and Slimm Calhoun, among others. OutKast's website is currently streaming "Trans DF Express," a track from the Dungeon Family's album "Even in Darkness," released on Nov. 20.
Cypress Hill
"Stoned Raiders" (Columbia)
This rap quartet (B Real, Sen Dog, Muggs and Bobo) is marking the tenth anniversary of its self-titled debut album with a new, metal-flavored full-length.
The album features 14 tracks in all. The first two singles, "Lowrider" and "Trouble," are streamed on the group's official site in both audio and video versions.
Among the album's guests are Kurupt, MC Ren (N.W.A), King Tee, Redman (Def Squad), Method Man (Wu Tang), Kokane and Mellow Man Ace (Sen Dog's brother). The album is available in clean and explicit edits. One song from the album, "Memories," recently appeared on the soundtrack to the Snoop Dogg film "Bones."
Last year, Cypress Hill released two albums, one of which was a studio release ("Skull & Bones"), and one of which was recorded in concert ("Live at the Fillmore").
Mariah Carey
"Greatest Hits" (Columbia)
Mariah Carey no longer records for Columbia Records--she left for Virgin in 2000--but the label is releasing this greatest-hits package with her approval. The album features all of Carey's hits for Columbia, as well as fan favorites and songs specially chosen by Carey herself.
Tracks include "I Don't Wanna Cry," "Emotions," "Hero" and "When You Believe," Carey's duet with Whitney Houston that first appeared on the 1998 "The Prince of Egypt" soundtrack (DreamWorks).
De La Soul
"Art Official Intelligence: Bionix" (Tommy Boy)
The longstanding rap trio drops the sequel to its 2000 release, "Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump."
The new album's official website offers an array of promotional goodies, including the album's first single, "Baby Phat."
Among the album's guest artists are B Real (of Cypress Hill, whose new record appears the same day as "Bionix"), Cee Lo (of Goodie Mob) and Slick Rick. "Bionix" is the second in a planned trilogy of albums.
De La Soul toured earlier this fall as part of the Spitkicker bill with Biz Markie.

Also included is a remix by Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor of the N.E.R.D. single "Lapdance"; both the original song and the remix are streamed on N.E.R.D.'s official website.
Soundtrack
"Not Another Teen Movie" (Maverick)
Paving the way for the Dec. 14 theatrical release of "Not Another Teen Movie" is this 12-song soundtrack that features songs from Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down, Stone Temple Pilots' Scott Weiland and others. The album's first single is Marilyn Manson's cover version of the popular '80s song "Tainted Love," originally performed by Soft Cell.
More information about the soundtrack can be found at Maverick's official website.
