Briefly: Slash barred from GN'R show, Weezer in the studio

Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash reportedly told ABC radio that a doorman turned him away from his former band's New Year's Eve appearance at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. A security guard reportedly confirmed Slash's story, saying that GN'R frontman Axl Rose--the band's only remaining original member--told the venue that he would leave the stage if Slash was allowed in the building.

Weezer has begun work on its fourth album, and has posted in MP3 format on its official website demos of 13 new songs.

The group also recently completed work on the music video for its current single, "Photograph," according to the website.

Some members of 'NSync will briefly appear as extras in the forthcoming film "Star Wars--Episode II: Attack of the Clones," MTV reported. The members' appearance was described in the report as being a "fleeting moment" that will find the unspecified group members lumped in with a number of other extras. (According to a New York Post report, they will be anonymous Jedi knights in the background of a climactic battle scene.) The film is due in theaters in May.

Reuters reported that the retail price of CDs may decline to $9.99 as record companies attempt to combat Internet piracy and stagnating sales. List prices for many new CDs are currently $17.99 to $19.99.

Motown singer Frankie Gaye, brother of the late Marvin Gaye, died on Friday (12/28) of complications following a heart attack, Billboard reported. He was 60. Frankie's experience as a soldier in Vietnam was the basis for much of the subject matter on Marvin's renowned 1971 album, "What's Going On."
