Backstreet Boy Nick Carter arrested

Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter was arrested on Wednesday (1/2) after he allegedly refused to comply with police officers who had ordered him to leave a Tampa, Fla., nightclub, according to published reports.

The 21-year-old performer was charged early Wednesday with a misdemeanor count of resisting/opposing a law enforcement officer without violence, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 4, according to an Associated Press report.

Police reportedly were called to Tampa's Pop City nightclub on Tuesday evening in response to a fight, and later in the night in response to a second disturbance. During the second incident, Carter allegedly got into an argument with a woman, and was told by police more than 10 times to leave the nightclub.

Officers ultimately told Carter to leave by "the count of 3," according to the report, and arrested him when he refused to do so. He was reportedly handcuffed, placed in a police car and later released on his own recognizance.

Carter, a Tampa-area resident, is the second member of Backstreet Boys to hit the news in recent months. Last summer, group member A.J. McLean checked in to a rehabilitation center for treatment of anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse, causing the group to postpone its summer tour.

A spokesperson for the group could not be reached for comment by press time.
