Rufus Wainwright lines up late winter tour dates
Rufus Wainwright takes his literate, cinematic folk-pop on the road beginning Feb. 8 in Boston. From there, he will travel up the East Coast and into Canada before heading west into the States.
The singer's latest album, "Poses" (Dreamworks) was released last June. Pierre Marchand (Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan), Alex Gifford of electronic duo Propellerheads and contemporary composer Damian le Gassick were among the album's producers. Artists who appear on the album include former Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa auf Der Maur, sister Martha Wainwright and eels drummer Butch.
Wainwright, the son of famed folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, spent last summer opening Roxy Music's North American tour and supported Tori Amos on a handful of dates during her fall 2001 tour. He was among the acts that Elton John selected for his 20 Years with AIDS benefit, held last month in Los Angeles, and he played recent tribute concerts for Neil Young and John Lennon.
