Cake sets U.S. tour dates, webcast aimed at Europeans
Sacramento, Calif., alt-rock band Cake , which continues to support its 2001 album "Comfort Eagle," will open its 2002 touring year with two-week stint of dates in the eastern U.S.
The band also has scheduled an hour-long live show on the Internet--via its official website--for Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. PT. The band plans to take song requests, "especially from Europeans," according to an announcement on the site.
"Cake is eager to play live shows in Europe and elsewhere, although due to the international situation and a general economic downturn, the band is unable to tour Europe at this time." the posting said.
"Comfort Eagle," the band's first album for Columbia Records, was released in July 2001, and spent 14 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at No. 13.
Cake's lineup for recording "Comfort Eagle" included original members John McCrea (vocals, acoustic guitar), Vince DiFiore (trumpet, keyboards) and Todd Roper (percussion), as well as Xan McCurdy (guitar) and Gabriel Nelson (bass), both of whom played on Cake's previous release, 1998's "Prolonging the Magic" (Capricorn). Roper left the group after the "Comfort Eagle" sessions, and has been replaced by Pete McNeal.
