Enrique Iglesias sets March-April tour of North America
Enrique Iglesias has revealed plans to tour in support of his latest album, “Escape.”
The jaunt is set to kick off on March 11 in Toronto, according to Iglesias’ official website. The dates run through April 4.
Before “Escape” (Interscope) was released in late October, it received an extra boost when radio station program directors interspersed sound clips from Sept. 11 coverage within the album's first single, “Hero.” (According to published reports, Iglesias was displeased with the edited version of “Hero.”) This week, the original version of the song bumped George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord” from the No. 1 spot on the U.K. music charts.
The title track is the album’s second single. The video, which stars tennis player Anna Kournikova as Iglesias’ love interest, debuted on MTV on Jan. 28. The channel featured the video in an episode of “Making the Video,” which repeats at 2 p.m. and noon Eastern Time on Thursday (1/31) and 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday (2/1).
The two-times platinum album--the follow-up to Iglesias' debut English-language album, 1999's “Enrique” (Interscope)--sits at No. 20 on The Billboard 200 chart, where it peaked at No. 2. Earlier this month, Iglesias won the American Music Award for Favorite Artist--Latin Music.
Iglesias is set to perform at the NBA All-Star Game’s pre-show event on NBC on Feb. 9.
