INXS headed to the U.S. with new singer
'80s-era Australian rock outfit INXS has announced a U.S. tour, its first in nearly five years. It is also the band's first visit to the States since the death of lead singer Michael Hutchence. Jon Stevens, former singer of Australian band Noiseworks, now fronts the group.
The band went on hiatus after Hutchence's death in 1997, but returned to the stage to open Olympic Stadium in Sydney in 1999. Terence Trent D'Arby took over vocal duties for that show. Stevens began performing with INXS in 2000.
According to a statement issued on the band's official website, guitarist Kirk Pengilly said, “Much of our career was spent in America and Canada and it will be great to be back playing there again--we honestly can't wait.”
The tour is expected to visit 40 cities and more dates will be announced through INXS' official website.
