U.K. rock act Coldplay has announced a short club tour of major U.S. cities for the month of August. It's the band’s first visit to the States in a year.

The tour, which is book-ended by extensive dates in Europe, promotes the band’s sophomore release, “A Rush of Blood to the Head.” The album is due in late August.

Along with other angsty Britpop bands like the Doves, Coldplay has benefited from the explosive popularity of Radiohead. In 2001, Coldplay’s single “Yellow” was picked up by major ad campaigns, which brought increased attention to the band’s Capitol debut, “Parachutes.”
