The Pretenders prep for North American jaunt
The Pretenders will back their critically acclaimed new album, "Loose Screw," with a two-month tour that covers much of North America.
The group--fronted by Akron, Ohio, native Chrissie Hynde--opened for the Rolling Stones on select dates in 2002, but hasn't embarked on a full-blown North American tour since 2000.
According to Artemis Records, most of the songs on "Loose Screw" are collaborations between Hynde and longtime guitarist Adam Seymour.
"The big change recently in how we work has been that we're now using modern technology, i.e. tape recorders," Hynde said in a statement. "Which means I can sit down in a very primitive little studio, the same sort of thing that most people have been using for years, and we can start working on the tracks together."
The only track on "Loose Screw" not written by the band is "Walk Like a Panther," a cover of a 1998 UK single by DJ collective All Seeing Eye.
Hynde and drummer Martin Chambers are the only members of the Pretenders that have been with the band since it formed in 1978. The band nearly collapsed in the early-80s after the drug-related deaths of members James Honeyman-Scott and bassist Pete Farndon.
The Pretenders' current lineup, which is rounded out by bassist Andy Hobson, has remained constant since the recording of 1994's "Last of the Independents."
