Indigo Girls opt to unplug for February tour
Indigo Girls Amy Ray and Emily Saliers will leave their band behind this winter, and instead will play a series of February acoustic dates.
The tour focuses on the Midwest, with a few Northeastern dates in the mix as well. Ray and Saliers continue to support "Become You," an album that reached stores nearly a year ago.
The duo recorded "Become You" with their touring group: Carol Isaacs (Hammond B-3, Wurlitzer, piano, accordion, penny whistle, recorder, percussion), Clare Kenny (acoustic and electric bass) and Brady Blade (drums and percussion). Ray and Saliers wrote six of the 12 songs on the album.
Kim Richey will support from Feb. 1-4 and 7-10, and Neko Case opens on Feb. 6. Cordero takes over the opening slot from Feb. 11-17, while Paul Melancon is scheduled to support Feb. 18 and 19.
Indigo Girls' Feb. 18 appearance in Wilmington, Del., is rescheduled from a canceled Dec. 11 show.
In April, Ray and Saliers will take to the road for a two-week spoken-word/acoustic tour with Native American environmental-activist Winona LaDuke to benefit Honor the Earth. According to Indigo Girls' official website, the duo will perform a 30- to 45-minute acoustic set at each show. The April dates hadn't been confirmed by press time.
