Cheap Trick continues to rock on the road
Veteran rock act Cheap Trick , which next year celebrates its 30th anniversary, keeps its chops up with another round concert dates.
The Illinois-based quartet's most-recent release is last May's "The Greatest Hits," which the group's longtime producer, Ian Taylor (Psychedelic Furs, Scorpions), engineered. Taylor also co-produced the band's most-recent studio effort, a self-titled set that surfaced in 1997.
In 2001, Cheap Trick released "Silver," a two-disc set that captures the band's 25th-anniversary performance in Rockford, Ill., on Aug. 28, 1999. The show, which was also released in DVD form, features guest appearances from Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Slash (Guns N' Roses) and Art Alexakis (Everclear).
Sound clips from all of the albums in Cheap Trick's sizable catalog are posted at the group's official website. The site also features digital downloads of the four tracks originally found on the 1980 EP "Found All the Parts." That album, which is now outofprint, features the tracks "Can't Hold On" (leftover from 1979's "Live at Budokan"), "Such a Good Girl," "Take Me I'm Yours" and a cover of the Beatles' "Daytripper."
Cheap Trick--vocalist Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos--formed in the early '70s and released its self-titled debut album in 1977. The band's most commercially successful release is the 1979 live recording "Live at Budokan," which spawned the hit "I Want You to Want Me."
