Belinda Carlisle to Go-Go it alone

Go-Go's singer Belinda Carlisle spends some time away from the group this winter in order to embark on her first U.S. solo tour in more than a decade.

Carlisle and the Go-Go's have been enjoying a revival during the past couple of years. In 2001, the group released "God Bless the Go-Go's," its first new studio effort in 17 years, and mounted a successful tour behind the release.

Carlisle helped to promote the album by posing nude for a pictorial that appeared in the August 2001 issue of Playboy magazine.

"God Bless the Go-Go's" spawned the hit "Unforgiven," which the group co-wrote with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. Armstrong also played guitar and sang background on the track.

Last year, the Go-Go's released a live DVD titled "The Go-Go's Live in Central Park," and also recorded a 30-second song that was used as the title theme for the Paramount Television program "Do Over."

The group wrapped up 2002 with a handful of concert dates, including a New Year's Eve performance at the Tempe Fiesta Bowl Block Party in Arizona.

Carlisle's most-recent solo effort is 1996's "A Woman & A Man." Aside from her work with the Go-Go's, the singer is best known for her mid-'80s string of solo hits, which includes "Mad About You," "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" and "I Get Weak."

Go-Go's drummer Gina Shock will play drums on Carlisle's upcoming tour.
