Black Crowes' Chris Robinson takes solo flight

Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson sets out on his own to back his solo debut, "New Earth Mud."

Following the Crowes' 2001 decision to go on an indefinite hiatus, Robinson headed to France to record "New Earth Mud." The singer co-produced the album with Paul Stacey, who is the guitarist in his backing band.

Five of the album's tracks are streaming at Robinson's official website. The site also features lyrics for all 12 of the album's songs.

Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson formed the Black Crowes in the '80s. The group broke into the mainstream with its 1990 debut, "Shake Your Money Maker." In addition to their music, the Robinson brothers were notorious for their tumultuous relationship, which often resulted in physical brawls.

Rich Robinson is working with his new band Hookah Brownn and will be touring this spring with an album to follow, according to the Black Crowes' official website.
