Pearl Jam to storm North America behind 'Riot Act'
Pearl Jam , lending support to its new album "Riot Act," has unveiled the itinerary for a spring-summer North American tour that's expected to visit about 50 cities.
Sleater-Kinney, Sparta, Idlewild and the Buzzcocks have been tapped to open various dates on the outing.
"Riot Act" is Pearl Jam's seventh studio release, and its first since 2000's "Binaural." The band produced the LP with Adam Kasper, who engineered R.E.M.'s "New Adventures in Hi-Fi." Frequent Pearl Jam collaborator Brendan O'Brien mixed the finished set, which was released in November.
As with Pearl Jam's 2000 tour, a series of "bootleg" discs are to be issued in connection with the band's 2002 outing. According to Epic Records, Pearl Jam will release an official recording of each show on its world tour. The CDs will initially be made available only via the Internet.
Meanwhile, a Pearl Jam rarities album is expected to hit stores sometime in 2003. The two-disc set will include live and studio material.
In other related news, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder appears on a track on the new Cat Power CD, which hit stores on Feb. 18.
