Coldplay graduates to North American arenas, amphitheaters
Brit-pop purveyors Coldplay have extended their North American tour through June, adding a series of arena and amphitheater dates.
The group's upcoming plans also include a Feb. 10 performance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" as well as a Feb. 23 performance at the GRAMMY® awards.
Coldplay 's U.S. following has steadily grown over the last year, during which the group was playing the club circuit. "A Rush of Blood to the Head," the band's sophomore album, has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping more than a million copies in the U.S. According to Capitol Records, more than 5 million copies of the album have sold worldwide.
"A Rush of Blood to the Head," which hit stores last August, is nominated for two GRAMMY awards: Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal.
The band co-produced the album with Ken Nelson (Gomez, Badly Drawn Boy). Nelson also produced the group's breakthrough 2000 album, "Parachutes," which won the 2002 GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Album.
