Slightly Stoopid emerges on the national stage
Ska-punkers Slightly Stoopid precede the release of their first nationally-distributed album by embarking on a West Coast tour with Damian "Junior Gong" Marley, and head out on their own after the album hits stores in March.
The San Diego-based trio was discovered by the late Bradley Nowell of Sublime , who signed the group to his Skunk Records label. Beginning in 1998, it released three full-length studio albums--two for Skunk--that lacked national distribution.
Slightly Stoopid recently signed with Surfdog Records, which will release its new album, "Everything You Need," on March 18. The album was produced by Miguel (Sublime, Unwritten Law, Long Beach Dub All Stars), Chris DiBendetto (G-Love and Special Sauce) and Scientist (Barrington Levy, Studio One, Bob Marley), and features guest vocals from G-Love.
According to Surfdog, Slightly Stoopid has built a grassroots following through extensive touring, including stints with Sublime, Blink 182, Bad Brains, Fishbone, Jurassic 5 and Buju Banton. The group has also appeared on the Vans Warped Tour, and headlined the winter and summer X-Games in 2001.
Slightly Stoopid tours with Marley, the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, through Feb. 23. Marley's latest release was 2001's "Halfway Tree."
In March, Slightly Stoopid opens its headlining tour. Dates are currently set through March 29, but more will be added, according to the band's official website.
