More GRAMMY acts announced, Simon and Garfunkel performance rumored

As Sunday's (1/23) GRAMMY® Awards ceremony quickly approaches, organizers have added a new batch of performers. Meanwhile, there's unconfirmed speculation that Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel will perform.

Kid Rock (who will perform with previously announced artist Sheryl Crow ), The Roots (who will back the previously booked Eminem ) and Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters (who will join in a tribute to the Clash's Joe Strummer) are the latest acts confirmed to perform.

Simon and Garfunkel, who will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards, are rumored to be performing, but GRAMMY officials haven't confirmed that rumor. On Friday (1/21) morning, Manhattan Records shot down speculation that a Simon and Garfunkel reunion tour is in the works by releasing a statement that said, "there have been no discussions--either with their respective managers or with Paul and Art themselves--about a tour."

Previously announced GRAMMY performers include Ashanti, Vanessa Carlton, Coldplay with members of the New York Philharmonic, Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill, Norah Jones, Avril Lavigne, John Mayer, Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland, No Doubt, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and James Taylor with Yo-Yo Ma.

Grohl will join Elvis Costello, No Doubt guitarist Tony Kanal, and E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt in a tribute to late Clash founder Joe Strummer, who died of a heart attack in December.

'NSync will perform during a special presentation to honor the Bee Gees with the GRAMMY Legend Award. Bee Gees member Maurice Gibb died in January.

Presenters will include Kylie Minogue, Kim Cattrall, Fred Durst, Mary J. Blige, Michelle Branch, Harvey Fierstein, Aretha Franklin, Peter Gabriel, Herbie Hancock, Alicia Keys, B.B. King, Cyndi Lauper, Martina McBride, Pat Monahan, Bonnie Raitt, Raphael Saadiq, Rod Stewart and Justin Timberlake.

Performances and special segments on this year's show will be introduced by personalities associated with the city of New York, including rapper Ja Rule, Joe Pantoliano, singer Marc Anthony, journalist Ed Bradley, rapper Queen Latifah, and bandleader Paul Shaffer.

Eminem has a shot at doubling his existing collection of five GRAMMYs; the Detroit rapper is one of eight artists nominated in five of this year's categories. Eminem's nods include Album of the Year and Best Rap Album, both for last year's "The Eminem Show."

Crow, an eight-time GRAMMY winner, is also up for five trophies this year, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Rock Album for last year's "C'mon, C'mon."

The GRAMMY Awards take place at New York City's Madison Square Garden and will be broadcast on CBS. Coverage will also be aired on the Westwood One radio network and online at GRAMMY.com.
