Les Claypool hops through the South with his Frog Brigade
Almost three years after announcing that his best-known outfit was taking an indefinite hiatus, Primus frontman Les Claypool continues to tour with his multitude of side projects.
The bassist extraordinaire hits the road in May under the Les Claypool's Frog Brigade banner, the act to which he has dedicated the most of his Primus-hiatus time.
In addition to its confirmed round of May dates, the group is also planning an extensive summer tour, according to Claypool's website. The group is supporting its first studio release, last September's "Purple Onion."
Prior to issuing the studio set, the group's only releases were a pair of live albums--"Live Frogs Set 1" and "Life Frogs Set 2-- that surfaced in 2001 on Claypool's own Prawn Song record label.
Claypool has stayed incessantly busy during his time away from Primus, forming no less than five different outfits, the first of which was 2000's Oysterhead, a trio that also featured Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and former Police drummer Stewart Copeland.
Following the May 1 launch of his Frog Brigade tour, Claypool is scheduled to give a May 3 performance with yet another of his many lineups. This one, dubbed Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, comprises Claypool, guitarist Buckethead, former Parliament and Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell and Primus drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia.
