Matchbox Twenty gears up for arena tour

Pop-rock staples Matchbox Twenty , who haven't toured since 2001, take to the road this spring on a lengthy outing to support the band's recently released third album, "More Than You Think You Are."

Fellow pop favorites Sugar Ray support on nearly all dates, and Maroon5 will also be on the bill for the tour's first five weeks. Tickets go on sale in select markets on Friday (3/7), and a pre-sale begins on AOL on Wednesday (3/5), according to Atlantic Records. Details are available at Matchbox Twenty's official website.

The tour is slated to tackle the North American arena circuit from late April through early July. At the band's May 14 appearance in East Rutherford, N.J., a 50-cents-per-ticket donation will go to Pets Alive, a no-kill animal shelter located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains.

Before the North American tour, Matchbox Twenty will embark on a series of European concerts, making stops in the U.K., Germany, France and Holland.

"More Than You Think You Are" is certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping more than a million copies in the U.S. The latest single from the album is titled "Unwell," and is gaining extensive airplay across a variety of radio formats.

The album--which followed Matchbox Twenty's quadruple-platinum 2000 album "Mad Season," was released in Nov. 2002, and debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. The group's debut, 1996's "Yourself or Someone Like You," has been certified 12 times platinum.

Sugar Ray's self-titled fourth album hit stores in 2001. The band is scheduled to release a new album on June 3.
