Toby Keith scores eight ACM Awards nominations

Toby Keith , Alan Jackson , Kenny Chesney , Trick Pony, the Dixie Chicks and Willie Nelson are among the artists who will vie for multiple trophies at this May's 38th annual Academy of Country Music awards.

Leading the pack with eight nominations is Keith, whose nods include Entertainer of the Year and Top Male Vocalist; Album of the Year for "Unleashed"; Single Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)"); Vocal Event of the Year for his duet with Willie Nelson, "Beer for My Horses"; and a pair of Video of the Year nominations for "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue (The Angry American)" and "Who's Your Daddy."

Because he is also listed as co-producer on four of the works for which he is nominated as an artist, Keith could land a total of 12 trophies.

Trailing Keith with six nominations is Alan Jackson, who is in contention for Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Album of the Year ("Drive"), Song of the Year ("Drive") and Video of the Year ("Drive"). His dual role as composer and artist on his Song of the Year-nominated track "Drive" means a potential seven trophies.

Following with five nominations is Kenny Chesney, who is up for Entertainer of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, Song of the Year ("A Lot of Different Things"), Album of the Year ("No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem") and Single Record of the Year ("The Good Stuff"). Chesney also doubles as co-producer in a pair of categories, bringing his potential take to seven trophies.

Trick Pony landed five nominations as well. The trio is up for Top Vocal Group, Album of the Year ("On a Mission"), Single Record of the Year ("Just What I Do"), Vocal Event of the Year and Video of the Year ("Just What I Do").

The Dixie Chicks and Willie Nelson follow with three nominations each. The Chicks are up for Entertainer of the Year, Top Vocal Group and Album of the Year ("Home"), while Nelson is nominated three times in the Vocal Event of the Year category for duets with Keith, Trick Pony and Lee Ann Womack.

Other multiple nominees include Brooks & Dunn, Rebecca Lynn Howard, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts and Womack.
