Madonna readies new album for April release
The hype machine is revving up for the late-April release of pop icon Madonna 's latest album, "American Life."
The album arrives in stores on April 22, Warner Bros. Records announced on Thursday (3/13), but fans who want to get their hands on the title track before then can pre-order a digital copy of the song for $1.49, according to Madonna's website. Buyers will then receive via email on March 24--one day before the song hits radio stations--an MP3-formatted version of the track.
The title-track's music video will begin airing during the first week of April. Madonna's label described the clip as "a panoramic view of our culture and looming war through the view of a female superhero portrayed by Madonna set against a backdrop of current cultural obsessions. It's a penetrating examination of our national psyche."
Remixes of the "American Life" single--remixed by Missy Elliott, Peter Rauhofer, Felix da Housecat and Paul Oakenfold--will also surface over the next several months, according to the label.
Madonna recorded her new album over the course of a year, during which she worked on the set in both London and Los Angeles. The 11-track effort is the follow-up to her multi-platinum 2000 release, "Music." The singer co-wrote and co-produced "American Life" with Mirwais Ahmadzai, with whom she also collaborated on "Music."
"All of these songs reflect my current state of mind," Madonna said in a statement. "I feel like I have just woken up out of a dream. They range from dismay and anger to joy and certainty. Hopefully, I have taken the personal and made it universal."
Madonna will help get the album off the ground via numerous appearances, performances and "special events," according to Warner Bros., including an appearance on the NBC sitcom "Will and Grace."
