ZZ Top packs cooler for Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers tour

ZZ Top is gearing up for a spring road trip that backs the Texas rock trio's first new album in almost four years.

Titled "Mescalero," the group's follow-up to 1999's "XXX" is due in stores on April 15, according to RCA Records. The set clocks in at just over an hour and features 15 original tracks, as well as the group's rendition of the 1967 Otis Redding and Carla Thomas duet "Tramp."

"The album has some of that old ZZ sound," guitarist Billy Gibbons said in a statement. "It's the same three guys playing the same three chords but we've gone in some new directions with them."

Bassist Dusty Hill added: "You'll know it's ZZ Top right away but we've kept it interesting and fresh."

The material on "Mescalero" ranges from "blues-rock to neo-metal to crypto-zydeco to boogie-flavored vamps," according to RCA, and includes "a country-inflected ballad and a big dose of TexMex border ambience." The label also described the track "Que Lastima"--which is sung entirely in Spanish--as "techno-mariachi."

ZZ Top--Gibbons, Hill and drummer Frank Beard--formed in Houston in 1970. The group gained widespread commercial appeal with its 1983 album "Eliminator" and 1985 set "Afterburner," which collectively spawned a slew of hits such as "Legs," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Sleeping Bag," "Velcro Fly" and more.
