21st Century Doors lineup takes the show on the road

Original Doors members Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek are setting out on tour as the Doors 21st Century, a new incarnation of the group that features singer Ian Astbury of the Cult.

The outing kicks off in Phoenix on March 26, and though only a handful of March and April dates have been confirmed, additional stops throughout the U.S. are expected to stretch into the summer, according to the band's website.

In addition to Astbury--who fills in for the late Jim Morrison--the quartet's lineup also includes drummer Ty Dennis, whom Krieger recruited from his own Robby Krieger Band.

Former Police drummer Stewart Copeland was originally due to hold down drumming duties, but was sidelined with a broken arm late last year, and was subsequently axed from the group. In response to his dismissal, Copeland recently filed a $1 million breach-of-contract suit against Krieger and Manzarek, according to reports.

In addition to Copeland's suit, Krieger and Manzarek--along with Astbury--are also the target of a suit that original Doors drummer John Densmore filed in early February. Densmore is seeking an injunction to prevent the revamped lineup from using the Doors name and logo.

The Doors 21st Century released a statement in response to Densmore's suit.

"Since December of 2001 John Densmore has repeatedly been asked to participate in the band. He has declined. We will not discuss the merit of John's lawsuit, that is better left to the courts. We trust and love our fans and know that they'll draw their own conclusion after all of the facts have been presented."
