Cause Of Tripping Daisy Guitarist's Death Still A Mystery

Nearly a week after guitarist Wes Berggren of the alt-rock band Tripping Daisy was found dead in his Dallas home, few details have emerged about the cause of Berggren's death or about the future of Tripping Daisy.

According to Dallas police, Berggren, 28, and his wife, Melissa, went to bed at around midnight on Wednesday (10/27). Police reports say that Berggren was unresponsive when his wife woke up around 4:45 a.m., so she called his father, who contacted the police. Police and firefighters were unable to revive him.

Police noted no obvious signs of injury to Berggren's body. Toxicology reports are expected to reveal the cause of his death, but the process could take weeks.

Tripping Daisy--which Island Records dropped last year after the release of their third album, ''Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb''--formed their own Good Records early this year. The band's first album for the label, ''The Tops Off Our Head,'' was expected in late November, and a promotional tour behind the release was in the works.

The surviving band members have not announced whether they will go forward as a group in the wake of Berggren's death, nor have they said if the new album's release will be delayed.
