Bono, Pavarotti sing to support Iraqi refugees

Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti and U2 frontman Bono will perform together at a May 27 concert in northern Italy to raise funds that will support the United Nations refugee agency's efforts in Iraq.

The event, which is to take place in Modena, will mark the second time that Pavarotti and Bono have dueted at a charity event, according to a statement issued on Tuesday (4/8) by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. In 1995, during a performance to raise funds for child victims of the war in Bosnia, they performed the song "Miss Sarajevo" with Brian Eno and U2 guitarist the Edge.

The concert will be the fourth such event in support of the UN refugee agency by Pavarotti and Friends, a group of performers from around the world who support the tenor at charity shows.

Over the past 10 years, Pavarotti has performed joint charity concerts in Modena with celebrities including Zucchero, Sting, Dalla, Bryan Adams, Ligabue, Liza Minelli, Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Laura Pausini, Caetano Veloso, Anastacia, James Brown, Lou Reed, Ricky Martin and Eric Clapton.

According to the UNHCR, the concerts have raised millions of dollars for the UN refugee agency and other charity causes. Proceeds from this year's event will go to UNHCR's work on behalf of people affected by the Iraq conflict.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased by calling +39 051 528 6802.
