Ziggy Marley heads out on first solo run
Marley's outing gets underway in late April, and wraps up with a two-night stand at the House of Blues in West Hollywood on June 21 and 22.
On Tuesday (4/15), Marley--son of the late reggae legend Bob Marley--released "Dragonfly," his solo debut. The Jamaican native wrote the album's material in his home country, but recorded the set in Miami and Los Angeles for reasons he described in a recent statement.
"As an artist I need to experience different things, to see the world and have different energies," he said. "It helps me grow as a person to be outside my element."
Marley went on to say that making the album as a solo artist proved to be a much different experience than working with brother Stephen and sisters Sharon and Cedella, a.k.a. the Melody Makers.
"Working on my own gave me a chance to take my time and experiment a lot," he said. "It took one year to finish this record--it's the longest I've ever worked on one album. It's different when you're on your own. At some point it's scary, and then at another it's a drive that makes you focus more."
Samples of all 11 tracks on "Dragonfly" are posted at record label Private Music's website, while full-length streams of the album's title track and the single "True to Myself" are available at Marley's official website.
