Earth, Wind & Fire returns with new album, tour

Armed with a new hit single, Earth, Wind & Fire kicks off a tour in May that will back the group's first new studio set in six years.

Titled "The Promise," EWF's new album is due in stores on May 20. It houses the group's latest single, "All In the Way," which recently debuted as the most-added song at Urban Adult Contemporary radio, according to the group's publicist.

"All In the Way" reunites EWF with R&B singers the Emotions, who also contributed vocals to EWF's 1979 hit "Boogie Wonderland" and 1981's "Let's Groove."

Core members Maurice White (founder, co-producer), his brother Verdine White (bass), Ralph Johnson (percussion) and Philip Bailey (vocals) recorded the album backed by additional musicians.

EWF's recording history dates back more than 30 years. Maurice White--who still serves as the band's leader and producer, but no longer tours with the outfit--spoke in a recent statement about his group's longevity.

"Throughout the years music has changed quite a bit," he said. "We've changed a bit too, but we've never sacrificed our credibility. Everything we've done has always been positive. All we want to do is uplift people through music."

The group will release "The Promise" on White's Kalimba Records label. The label's website features the cover art and a complete list of the album's 17 tracks.

Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March of 2000. The group scored its first Top 10 hit with 1974's "Mighty Mighty."

In 2001, the group celebrated its 30th anniversary by releasing a career retrospective titled " Shining Stars: The Official Story of Earth, Wind & Fire." The film is available in DVD and VHS format.
