Loretta Lynn packs bags for lengthy tour

Loretta Lynn will be spending a lot of time away from home this year as she sets out in May on a U.S. tour that stretches into November.

The bulk of the country singer's dates are currently packed into May, June, July and August. Tickets for a handful of shows are on sale now.

Lynn's outing comes on the heels of her April 19th performance in New York City, where she opened a sold-out concert for popular alt-rock duo the White Stripes. The White Stripes are "huge" Loretta Lynn fans, according to Lynn's website; the act dedicated one of their earlier CDs to the singer, and recorded a cover version of Lynn's 1972 No. 1 hit, "Rated X."

The White Stripes invited Lynn to open for them after their March 29 visit to her Tennessee ranch, where they were treated to a "chicken & dumplings dinner," according to Lynn's website.

Lynn, who hasn't released a new studio album since 2000's "Still Country," has begun work on a follow-up that will be titled "Still Woman Enough." She used the same title for her 2002 autobiography, which was recently released in paperback; the title is a take off on that of her first No. 1 hit, 1966's "You Ain't Woman Enough."

The new album will include the track "Sweet Thang," a duet that Lynn recently recorded with country singer Alan Jackson, according to a spokesperson.

In the mid '70s, Lynn released her first autobiography, "Coal Miner's Daughter." A movie based on the book surfaced in 1980, in which Sissy Spacek portrayed Lynn. The role won Spacek an Academy Award.

A DVD version of "Coal Miner's Daughter" is scheduled for a May 6 release. The disc will include a new interview that Lynn filmed in January.
