Johnny Mathis sets up leisurely 2003 tour schedule
Johnny Mathis , whose recording career began 46 years ago, has lined up a smattering of concert dates that are scattered throughout the coming months.
Mathis' itinerary currently features no more than four dates per month for the rest of the year, and includes two-night stands in several cities. Tickets to a number of shows are on sale now.
Earlier this year, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences presented Mathis with a Lifetime Achievement Award GRAMMY®. The singer was honored with a ceremony the day before the Feb. 23 GRAMMY Awards show.
The most-recent entries in Mathis's massive catalog are last October's "The Christmas Album"--his sixth original holiday collection--and 2000's "Mathis on Broadway," which features his take on nine contemporary show tunes.
Mathis broke through on the music scene with his 1957 debut album, "Wonderful Wonderful," which spawned the Top 20 title track, the No. 5 hit "It's Not for Me to Say" and the singer's first No. 1 hit--and one of his best-known songs to this day--"Chances Are."
