New Doors lineup faces another lawsuit; more tour dates planned

Original Doors members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger may end up spending more time in the courtroom than on stage; the parents of deceased Doors frontman Jim Morrison are the latest party to sue the duo.

On April 23, George and Clara Morrison--who are both in their eighties--filed in Los Angeles Superior Court a complaint that accuses Krieger and Manzarek of a number of wrongdoings, including misappropriating the band's logo, using the late singer's poetry and photos without permission, and "stealing valuable property rights" in order to promote and market "a new band that they recently organized with two other individuals that have never been associated with the original Doors band," according to a court document posted at TheSmokingGun.com.

The complaint goes on to accuse Krieger, Manzarek, singer Ian Astbury (the Cult) and an unnamed drummer of embarking on "a national and international tour in order to wrongfully enrich themselves."

Columbus and Pearl Courson, the parents of Morrison's late wife Pamela, are also plaintiffs in the suit.

The Morrison/Courson suit follows separate suits that original drummer John Densmore and former Police drummer Stewart Copeland filed against Krieger and Manzarek earlier this year.

Densmore is seeking unspecified monetary damages and an injunction that would prevent Krieger, Manzarek and Astbury from using the Doors name and logo.

Copeland--who briefly filled Densmore's shoes in the new lineup, but was dropped after breaking his arm late last year--earlier this year filed a $1 million breach-of-contract suit against Krieger and Manzarek.

Amidst all of the legal haranguing, Krieger, Manzarek, Astbury and drummer Ty Dennis--whom Krieger recruited from his own Robby Krieger Band--launched a spring/summer tour last week. The group, which is dubbed the Doors 21st Century, has clusters of dates scheduled into September.
