Jane's Addiction sets release date for new album

During its headlining run on this summer's resuscitated Lollapalooza tour, pioneering alt-rock act Jane's Addiction will drop its first new studio set since 1990's "Ritual de lo Habitual."

Titled "Hypersonic," the new album is due in stores on July 22. Producer Bob Ezrin--known for his work on albums such as Pink Floyd's "The Wall, KISS's "Destroyer" and Lou Reed's "Berlin"--produced the set, which features founding members Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar) and Stephen Perkins (drums).

Rounding out the lineup is new bassist Chris Chaney, whose résumé includes gigs with Rob Zombie, Tommy Lee and Andrew W.K.

The album's first single is a track titled "Just Because," according to Capitol Records. No word yet on when the cut will hit radio stations.

Though Jane's Addiction has for many years been recognized for its widespread and long-standing impact on the alt-rock scene, "Hypsersonic" is only the group's fourth studio album.

On July 3, Jane's Addiction hits the road with Audioslave, Queens of the Stone Age, Jurassic 5 and the Donnas for the first Lollapalooza trek since 1997. Dates appear below.

The first Lollapalooza took place in 1991 and featured tour-founder Jane's Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, Ice T/Body Count and Living Colour, among others. Subsequent outings featured Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice in Chains, Primus, Metallica, Ministry, Korn, Tool and others.
