Dar Williams keeps logging the tour miles

Singer-songwriter Dar Williams has built her grassroots following over the last decade through extensive touring, and she's not changing that formula in 2003.

Williams began her touring year in early April, shortly after the release of her sixth album, "The Beauty of the Rain." Her itinerary is now filled through the spring and summer.

A full band will back Williams on most dates. She performs solo on June 15, 16, 20 and 26; on July 20 and 26; and on Aug. 3; and her trio will play Aug. 13-16.

The new album, which hit stores on Feb. 18, features a long list of well-known guests: Alison Krauss on vocals, Bela Fleck on banjo, John Popper (Blues Traveler) on harmonica and backup vocals, Stefan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band) on bass, John Medeski on keyboards, Chris Botti on trumpet, Cliff Eberhardt on vocals and Michael Kang (String Cheese Incident) on fiddle.

"It can be a little lonely sometimes being a girl with a guitar," Williams said in her record-company biography. "I wanted to reach out into the world and see what else was going on."

Williams, whose style has drawn comparisons to folk greats like Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez, has sold more than 500,000 albums over the course of her career, according to Razor & Tie. Her upcoming tour will visit a mix of colleges, theaters and clubs.

In February, Williams and fellow singer-songwriter Kasey Chambers taped a show for the PBS series "Soundstage," which will air this summer on PBS, according to Williams official website.
