Lynyrd Skynyrd plots summer outing, teams with Sammy Hagar
Veteran southern-rock outfit Lynyrd Skynyrd backs its new album this summer with a lengthy U.S. tour that includes a month's-worth of co-headlining dates with Sammy Hagar .
Following a June run through Europe, Skynyrd kicks off its U.S. headlining trip on July 5, and teams up with Hagar and his band, the Waboritas, on July 19 for a string of shows that run through Aug. 17. Tickets for several dates are on sale now. Additional on-sale info is posted at Skynyrd's website.
Following the co-headlining stint with Hagar, Skynyrd is set to continue its own headlining run, for which dates currently stretch into early October.
Hagar also has headlining dates lined up both before and after teaming with Skynyrd.
Skynyrd's upcoming road trip supports its May 20 release, "Vicious Cycle," which is the group's first new studio set in four years. The album was originally due out on May 6, but was postponed following guitarist Gary Rossington's late-February quintuple bypass.
"Vicious Cycle" features the hit single "Red White and Blue," the success of which was fueled by the war in Iraq. A band press release describes the track as "a patriotic tribute to the blue collar ethics that have immortalized Lynyrd Skynyrd."
Samples of several "Vicious Cycle" cuts are posted at the band's website.
