Arrested Development back on tour in the U.S.

Influential hip-hop group Arrested Development , which called it quits in 1996 but reunited in 2000 to record a new album and tour Japan, is planning its first U.S. tour in more than seven years.

The outing is scheduled to visit a mix of clubs and festivals through September, with all of the group's original members on hand with the exception of co-founder Timothy Barnwell.

The latest Arrested Development album is titled "The Heroes of the Harvest," and is available in the U.S. exclusively via group-leader Speech 's official website.

Arrested Development burst onto the music scene with its chart-topping 1992 debut, "3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of ... ." Thanks to the album and its hit singles "Mr Wendal," "People Everyday" and "Tennessee," Arrested Development became the first rap group to win a GRAMMY in the Best New Artist category.

Their debut album was followed by 1993's "Unplugged," which was largely a live re-working of its predecessor. "Zingalamaduni," the band's sophomore studio album, followed in 1994 and met with disappointing sales.

The group split when Speech went solo in 1996. Though he has released four solo albums, none came close to the commercial and critical acclaim of Arrested Development's debut. A new Speech solo album titled "Peechy" was issued earlier this year in Japan.

In retrospect, Arrested Development's sound can be seen as a precursor to the still-thriving neo-soul movement that spawned artists like the Fugees and India.Arie.
