Briefly: Marilyn Manson, Wyclef Jean, Dr. Dre, Nelly, Led Zeppelin
Marilyn Manson launches his new album, "The Golden Age of Grotesque" (due out on May 13) with a May 12 release party and performance at the Key Club in West Hollywood, Calif.
"Fans and invited dignitaries will glean inspiration from the glamour of 1930's Hollywood, the grotesque of Vaudeville, the decadence and so-called 'degenerate' art of Berlin's Weimar Republic just before it's [sic] destruction," says a press release. "Expect anything."
Manson is co-headlining this year's Ozzfest.
Ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean has signed on with the Clive Davis' J Records label. Jean has begun work on a new album, which is expected to reach stores this fall.
A Los Angeles jury has ordered rap mogul Dr. Dre to pay more than $1.5 million to a London music publisher. The court found that Dre illegally used samples from the 1980 song "Backstrokin'" in the song "Let's Get High," which appeared on the "Dr. Dre 2001" album, according to published reports. The "Backstrokin'" publisher originally sought $3.5 million.
Rapper Nelly and his sister Jackie Donahue have formed "Jes Us 4 Jackie," an organization that aims to raise awareness in order to increase the number of donors on the National Marrow Donor Program Registry, according to a press release. Donahue suffers from leukemia and is in need of a bone-marrow transplant.
The Led Zeppelin DVD and CD sets "How the West Was Won" will be premiered during a red carpet screening at Manhattan's Loews 34th Street Theatre. The screening--which will feature two hours of footage taken from the 5-hour DVD set--will be followed by an invitation-only VIP party "with members of Led Zeppelin in attendance," according to Atlantic Records.
