Santana to donate tour proceeds to AIDS group
Carlos Santana will donate all of his proceeds from his band's June and July North American tour to the AIDS organization Artists for a New South Africa, ANSA announced.
Santana's donation will go to ANSA's AIDS Grantmaking Program in order to provide funds to South African organizations working on the frontlines to fight AIDS, the organization said.
According to ANSA, more people are living with HIV in South Africa than in any other nation. More information about the organization is available at ANSA's website.
Led by ace guitarist Carlos Santana , Santana is touring in support of its 2002 double-platinum album "Shaman."
Benin-born vocalist Angelique Kidjo--whose sound gives a West African twist to funk, salsa, jazz and rumba elements--will open the summer dates.
Santana teamed with a roster of high-powered guest artists on "Shaman," including Seal, Dido, Macy Gray, P.O.D. and Michelle Branch. It's the same formula that Santana used on its 1999 comeback album "Supernatural," which has sold 14 million copies.
In February, the "Shaman" track "The Game of Love," featuring Branch, won the GRAMMY® award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
Santana dominated the 2000 GRAMMY Awards ceremony with "Supernatural," claiming eight trophies to tie a record set by Michael Jackson in 1983.
On Saturday (5/17), Santana will perform a short set at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., as part of KIIS-FM radio's Wango Tango benefit show. KISS, Michelle Branch, Nelly and Christina Aguilera are among the other acts on the bill.
